Thai Fortune: Go for the red curry

Looking for a place to have great food and a good time? OU News Bureau reporters have visited some distinctive eateries in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties to learn more about what these places have to offer. Reporter Lauren Reid visited Thai Fortune in Auburn Hills and spoke with server sisters Jannie and Michelle Hang.

Can you tell me a little bit about the history of this place?
Jannie: We’ve been here for maybe 25 years. It’s been a while. About four, five people work here, and everybody who works here is family and close friends. We all know each other.
Michelle: My dad and uncle wanted to be their own bosses. It was a friend’s restaurant and they took it over. They own it 50/50 now.

What do you offer to your customers?
Jannie: Quality Thai food.
Michelle: We offer different spice levels, from no spice to Thai spicy. I’m slowly raising my spice tolerance so I can try spicier dishes.

Why would someone rather come here than other Thai restaurants?
Jannie: I would say it’s cheaper here, and more quantity of the food here. It’s pretty good, too.

What do you do different from other Thai places in the area?
Jannie: We try to keep it fast and understand that people have places to go to and that people are hungry.

What’s the No. 1 dish people should try here?
Jannie: People should try the red curry dishes. It’s really popular.
Michelle: Yeah, the No. 9, the gang dang, is my favorite.

What’s the future hold for this place? You see yourself expanding?
Jannie:
For now, just staying here but who knows, this family is expanding.

Thai Fortune is at Walton Village Plaza Shopping Center, 3027 E. Walton Blvd, Auburn Hills, Michigan  48326. (248) 371-0246.
